Abstract:
The study site is located approximately 800m from Concordia Station, Antarctica (75.0977S, 123.2982E, at an elevation of 3233m). Snow surface is monitored by taking images automatically every hour in summer (August -- March) by a near infra-red camera (Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 24×36mm sensor) equipped with an Astronomik Planet IR Pro high-pass infrared filter (cutoff frequency of 807 nm) and a 28mm focal length lens, installed on a tower at a height of approximately 20m. The effective surface area with sufficient resolution to clearly distinguish surface features is approximately 5200m2. The images are orthorectified. On those images, we retrieved the barchan's characteristics. The barchan's characteristics (length, width, horn length, migration rates) are measured on the orthorectified images. Detailled methodology can be find in Poizat et al., (submitted). Wind speed and direction are acquired every 1h at 3 different levels, up to 2m20, with Young A05103 anemometers.
