Abstract:
This dataset contains orthorectified near-infrared images of snow barchan during migration events at Concordia Station, East Antarctica. Images were acquired by a near infra-red camera (Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 24×36mm sensor) equipped with an Astronomik Planet IR Pro high-pass infrared filter (cutoff frequency of 807 nm) and a 28mm focal length lens, installed on a tower at a height of approximately 20m. Images were recorded during summer months (August–March), when sufficient daylight was available to capture surface features clearly. The observations were collected as part of a long-term study of snow surface evolution aimed at quantifying the role of snow in Antarctica climate. The primary purpose of this dataset is to provide standardized quantitative descriptors of snow barchan migration and geometry for use in studies of surface processes, wind-driven sediment transport, and landscape evolution in polar environments.
