Abstract:
The Intensive Observation Period to study the Arctic atmospheric water cycle (IOP4H2O) campaign is a joint field work of the University of Cologne, the Leipzig University, and the Alfred Wegener Institut, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research. IOP4H2O was carried out in January and February 2025 at the AWIPEV research base on Ny-Ålesund on Svalbard in the framework of the Transregional Collaborative Research Centre TR 172 Arctic Amplification: Climate-Relevant Atmospheric and Surface Processes, and Feedback Mechanisms ((AC)³ . The campaign focused on the Arctic atmospheric water cycle, i.e., water vapor, clouds, precipitation, and blowing snow, as well as the thermodynamic background profiles. During the intensive observation period, a comprehensive suite of instruments was operated at the AWIPEV research base and surrounding sites in Ny-Ålesund. The instrument suite included cloud radars (Ka-, W-, and G-band), aerosol lidar, microwave radiometers, laser and video didrometers, rain gauges, surface radiation sensors, standard meteorology, and radiosonde launches. This data collection summarizes all observational datasets relevant for IOP4H2O.
