Abstract:
Sample-level total and mineral-specific mass accumulation rates were calculated for the Alano di Piave section, northeastern Italy, to distinguish changes in sediment flux from closed-sum compositional effects and carbonate dilution across the Middle Eocene Climatic Optimum. The calculations combine the GTS2020-based age-depth model, linear sedimentation rates, lithology-dependent dry bulk-density values, and X-ray diffraction mineral abundances. Total mass accumulation rate was calculated as linear sedimentation rate multiplied by dry bulk density. Component-specific rates were calculated by multiplying total mass accumulation rate by the weight fraction of calcite, total carbonates, quartz plus feldspar, total clay minerals, or smectite-rich illite/smectite mixed-layer clay. The table contains phase assignment, sample identifier, stratigraphic depth, interpolated age, linear sedimentation rate, assigned dry bulk density, mineral abundance, and the corresponding accumulation rates. Because dry bulk densities were assigned by lithology rather than measured for each sample, the rates are intended as semi-quantitative estimates of first-order stratigraphic variability.
