Abstract:
The 53°N observatory is an ocean observatory that is in operation since 1997 at the "exit" of the Labrador Sea. Dedicated ship-based and moored observations are routinely obtained to analyse characteristics and processes related to all components of the Deep Western Boundary Current (DWBC).
Specific research interest is in:
Observing regional flow and thermohaline variability from days to decades
Augmenting biogeochemistry observations to a long-term observatory (e.g., oxygen)
Model validation (e.g., mean vertical current structure, volume transport)
Contributing to international OSNAP for sustained observing of AMOC in the subpolar North Atlantic sector
