Abstract:
This bundled dataset presents high-resolution multi-proxy analyses and includes sedimentary census counts, foraminiferal stable isotope and trace element ratios from sediment samples of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Site U1542 (52°42.292ʹS, 75°35.769ʹW; 1,101 m water depth), located on the Chilean continental margin in the south-east Pacific Ocean. Additionally, the bundled dataset includes benthic foraminiferal trace element analyses and foraminiferal stable oxygen and carbon isotope ratios from sediments at IODP Site U1540 (55°08.467ʹS, 114°50.515ʹW; 3,580 m water depth) in the central Pacific Southern Ocean. The data cover the timespan between Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 12 and 10. Sedimentary census counts at IODP Site U1542 include abundance estimates of the planktic foraminifera Neogloboquadrina pachyderma and siliciclastic grains. Summer sea surface temperatures were calculated from the relative abundance of N. pachyderma using the calibration by Govin et al. (2009). Stable oxygen (δ¹⁸O) and carbon (δ¹³C) isotope analyses at IODP Site U1542 were conducted on the benthic foraminifera Cibicidoides wuellerstorfi and Hoeglundina elegans and on the planktic foraminifera Globigerina bulloides. The H. elegans δ¹⁸O data were used to generate the age model of the study core by manually tuning the record to the benthic foraminiferal LR04 δ¹⁸O stack of Lisiecki and Raymo (2005). The foraminiferal δ¹³C dataset from IODP Site U1540 is an extension of the δ¹³C dataset from Jebasinski et al. (2026) and includes Cibicidoides wuellerstorfi, Cibicides kullenbergi and Globigerina bulloides δ¹³C data. Additionally, G. bulloides δ¹⁸O data was generated at IODP Site U1540. Trace element ratios, including Cd/Ca, Mn/Ca, Al/Ca and Fe/Ca, were measured on the benthic foraminifera H. elegans and C. kullenbergi at IODP Site U1542 and U1540, respectively. This bundled dataset provides insights into dynamics in deep-to-intermediate ocean coupling in the Pacific Southern Ocean during MIS 12-10.
