Abstract:
This dataset contains Zn and Pb isotope compositions (δ66Zn, 206Pb/207Pb, 208Pb/206Pb) and elemental ratios (Zn/P, Zn/Al, Zn/Mn, Pb/Al) in marine particles and aerosols (labile and refractory fractions) from the South Pacific Ocean samples collected during the SONNE cruise SO289 (GEOTRACES section GP21; February 23 - April 4, 2022). Seawater (6-8 L) was collected using trace metal clean Niskin bottles and subsequently filtered through 0.2 µm pore size filters to collect marine particles. Atmospheric aerosols (> PM 10) were collected using a high-volume aerosol collector for 48 – 72 hour intervals.
Labile particulate phases in marine particles and aerosols were extracted using a mild acetic acid + hydroxylamine hydrochloride leach (Berger et al., 2008). Refractory particulate phases were digested using a HNO3-HF mixture (Al-Hashem et al., 2022). Samples were analyzed for elemental abundances using an Element XR high-resolution ICP-MS. Samples for Zn and Pb isotope analysis were purified by column chromatography (Bermin et al., 2006; Lugmair & Galer, 1992) and measured on a Neptune Plus multi-collector ICP-MS.
