Abstract:
A custom-built ROV (Octiluz) based on Ocean Module V8Sii ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) technology was launched from a small boat and flown along a 226 m vertical transect to the bottom of the fjord at 198 m depth. The device was equipped with three cameras with different perspectives: Two HD camera (Kongsberg oe14-502, 720p50) pointed forward recording stereograpic videos and a full HD network camera (OceanTools C3-30 1080p25) took isometric recordings foreward-down. Environmental data were recorded using a CTD (RBR Maestro), which included sensors for chlorophyll a, turbidity, oxygen, pH and PAR in addition to standard conductivity, temperature and pressure instruments. The global orientation with respect to magnetic north was determined using an internal IMU device. To determine the true imaging scale on the high-resolution film material, a series of reference lasers indicating 14 cm horizontally and 7 cm vertically were used, as well as an altimeter (Tritech) providing acoustically measured distances to the wall (see linked file in dive metadata column of respective ROV Video dataset).
