Abstract:
Here, we present accumulation rates of carbonate (CAR), foraminifera (MARforam), and coccolithophores (MARcocco), as well as benthic foraminifera accumulation rates (BFAR) from Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Sites 1262 (Hole B). Mass accumulation rates were calculated as the product of linear sedimentation rate and dry bulk density as described in Lyle et al. (2005, doi:10.2973/odp.proc.sr.199.219.2005). Because of the limited data available from Hole B, density correlations were built using data from Site 1262 Hole A. Carbonate accumulation rates were calculated by multiplying calcium carbonate weight percent with mass accumulation rates. Calcium carbonate weight percent was measured at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University (New York, NY) using an UIC inc. CM5012 CO2 coulometer with an Automate FX Inc. automated sample acidification and delivery carousel. For the analysis, a carbonate standard was used (GFS Chemicals Calcium Carbonate Standard - ACS). Accumulation rates of foraminifera and coccolithophores were calculated following Si & Rosenthal (2019, doi:10.1038/s41561-019-0450-3). Benthic foraminiferal accumulation rates were determined as described in Herguera and Berger (1991, doi:10.1130/0091-7613(1991)019<1173:PFBFAG>2.3.CO;2). Sample ages were based on the correlation between Site 1262 and Site 1263 (where an astronomically age model was available), as described in Westerhold et al. (2020, doi:10.1126/science.aba6853).
