Abstract:
This dataset consists of nine data tables and is part of the DFG SPP 527 Infrastructure area - International Ocean Drilling Programme³ (IODP³) project Exp392EventStratigraphy: high resolution bulk stable carbon isotope stratigraphy of major Paleogene events drilled during IODP Expedition 392 on Agulhas Plateau. The reported data enable a clear identification and geochemical characterization of the recovered Paleocene Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM) record, set a new global standard for correlation.
On 1124 peas size sediment samples from IODP Site U1580 stable δ13C and δ18O were measured at MARUM - Center for Marine Environmental Sciences - University of Bremen. Samples were oven dried over night at <40°C and then ground to fine powder using a pistil and mortar. Analysis at MARUM were performed on a ThermoFisher Scientific 253plus with Kiel IV automated carbonate preparation line. Samples were reacted with orthophosphoric acid at 75 °C. Analytical precision based on replicate analyses of in-house standard (Solnhofener Limestone) averages 0.04 ‰ and 0.06 ‰ (1σ) for δ13C and δ18O, respectively. 122 replicate measurements were perform in addition. Data are reported relative to the Vienna Pee Dee Belemnite international standard, determined via adjustment to calibrated in-house standards and NBS-19.
