Abstract:
High‑resolution, multichannel reflection seismic data were acquired during the RV Sonne cruise SO304 (22 February – 07 April 2024) to the Bay of Bengal. The archived profile SO304‑GeoB24‑019‑MCS‑td96‑uGI was recorded on 08 March from 06:25 UTC to 09:25 UTC to image a lobe complex on the Bengal Fan. Acquisition started at 14°58.732′ N 087°12.296′ E and ended at 14°58.542′ N 087°26.036′ E. As a seismic source, a Sercel Micro Generator‑Injector air‑gun with two chambers of 0.1 L volume each and supplied with 140 bar compressed air was used. The source has a central frequency of 350 Hz and a –20 dB bandwidth of 70–1000 Hz. A time trigger with a 6 s shot rate (≈ 15 m shot‑point spacing at 5 kn) and a 15 ms injector delay was employed. The receiver is an analog, gel‑filled, single‑hydrophone (one hydrophone per channel, 3–1000 Hz bandwidth) 96‑channel Teledyne streamer. The streamer consists of four active sections: 32 channels with 1 m spacing, 32 channels with 2 m spacing, and two sections of 16 channels with 4 m spacing, giving an offset range of 13–224 m. Five Digicourse Model 7010 birds were used to tow the streamer at a target depth of 0.7 m. The seismic signal was digitised with the MaMuCS system (Dr. Keil, University of Bremen) using 16‑bit A/D conversion (NISCXI1102‑C with a 32‑channel multiplexer), 8 kHz sampling rate, 3 s recording length and 3 s recording delay. The data are stored as demultiplexed SEG‑Y files in floating‑point IEEE format. Additionally, ASCII formatted AHL-files are provided containing the georeferenced positions (GPS, Source, Receiver, Midpoint, CMP) and metadata (Date and Time, Offsets, Course, CMP-Number, Source and Receiver Depths) for every shot-receiver pair. The provided NMEA record corresponds to the position of the ship, while the position of the antenna is given in the deck plan.
