Abstract:
This dataset presents major element geochemistry and calculated chemical weathering indices for deep-sea sediment core SK168/GC01 (11°42′N, 94°29′E; 2064 m water depth) recovered from the central Andaman Sea, covering the last ~54 ka. Major element concentrations (Al₂O₃, TiO₂, CaO, Na₂O, K₂O, MgO) were determined on the lithogenic fraction by wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (WD-XRF) at the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, India, following removal of authigenic, biogenic, and weakly bound components by 1N hydrochloric acid leaching. Derived geochemical indices — the Chemical Index of Alteration (CIA), Weathering Index of Parker (WIP), Chemical Index of Quartz Enrichment (CIQ), and Al₂O₃/K₂O ratio — are provided alongside the elemental data to facilitate reconstruction of late Quaternary continental silicate weathering intensity and sediment chemical maturity in the Andaman Sea basin. These data support the findings reported in Miriyala (2026, Paleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, in review).
