Abstract:
This dataset comprises geotechnical and spatial data derived from disturbed and undisturbed soil samples collected from major creeks of the Indus Delta, Pakistan. The study focuses on characterizing the physical and mechanical properties of coastal soils and assessing their spatial variability in relation to erosion susceptibility and deltaic stability. Laboratory analyses were conducted to determine key geotechnical parameters, including specific gravity, particle size distribution (using sieve and hydrometer methods to quantify sand, silt, and clay fractions), and Atterberg limits for soil consistency characterization. Soil classification was performed according to the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Compaction characteristics were evaluated using the Standard Proctor test to obtain maximum dry density and optimum moisture content. Shear strength parameters were determined through direct shear tests and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) testing. The dataset also incorporates spatial attributes (sampling locations and coordinates).

Method:
Soil samples (disturbed and undisturbed) were collected from intertidal zones and adjacent creek banks/wetland areas of the Indus Delta, Pakistan, using standard field sampling techniques. Undisturbed samples were obtained using thin walled 4 inch dia tube, while disturbed samples were collected manually. Laboratory analyses were conducted following ASTM standards. Specific gravity was determined using the pycnometer method. Particle size distribution was analyzed using sieve and hydrometer methods. Atterberg limits were determined to assess soil consistency, and soils were classified according to the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Compaction characteristics were obtained using the Standard Proctor test. Shear strength parameters were determined using direct shear tests and unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests.
--
Elevation:
Sampling locations are situated within intertidal and low-lying coastal of the Indus Delta, approximately 0–5 m above mean sea level.
--
Date/Time (UTC):
Sampling was conducted between 2025-02-09T06:00:00 and 2025-02-15T06:00:00 (UTC).
--
Sampling Depth in Soil:
Soil samples were collected at a shallow depth of approximately 0.15 m below ground surface to assess surface soil properties and erosion vulnerability.
