Abstract:
In order to explore past vegetation and hydroclimatic changes in the eastern region of northeastern Brazil over the late Pleistocene, we present the long-chain n-alkanes signature of modern native vegetation of the eastern region of northeastern Brazil: Caatinga and Atlantic Forest. Based on the relative abundance of long-chain n-alkanes in samples collected in September 2022, a novel proxy, the Caatinga Vegetation Index has been proposed to distinguish samples of the two vegetations.
