Abstract:
This dataset contains year-round measurements of CO2, CH4, and N2O fluxes collected in 2022 using automated chambers along a moisture gradient at Siikaneva bog in southern Finland. Measurements were conducted at three ecosystem types representing different positions along the gradient from upland to wetland: a well-drained upland boreal forest, an intermediate site, and an open bog hollow. Each site was equipped with four automated chambers to provide spatial replication, including three transparent chambers and one opaque chamber. Chamber measurements alternated throughout the day, resulting in three flux measurements per chamber per day. The dataset was collected to improve understanding of greenhouse gas fluxes across boreal landscapes, with a particular focus on non-growing season dynamics and the processes controlling CH4 and N2O emissions. Year-round measurements of these gases, especially during the non-growing season and in upland environments, remain scarce. By sampling along a moisture gradient, the study design minimizes climatic variability while allowing investigation of how soil moisture and temperature influence greenhouse gas fluxes across contrasting ecosystem types. Flux measurements are complemented by continuous environmental observations at each chamber, including soil temperature, soil moisture, photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), and water table depth at the bog site. Additional meteorological and soil variables from a weather station at the upland forest site, pro-vide further environmental context for interpreting flux variability.
