Abstract:
This dataset contains authigenic 10Be and 9Be measurements from Arctic deep-sea sediments. We determined authigenic 10Be/9Be ratios across specific intervals identified in Geibert et al. (2021), focusing on sections characterized by extrema in excess 230Th (230Thxs). These include low-230Thxs intervals associated with glacial periods and high-230Thxs intervals linked to interglacial periods. The 10Be/9Be ratio was used as a water-mass proxy to reconstruct the North Atlantic inflow in the Arctic Ocean across glacial–interglacial cycles. The ratio varies by more than an order of magnitude between North Atlantic inflow waters, which carry relatively high 10Be/9Be signatures, and Arctic river inputs, which exhibit much lower values. We observe uniformly low 10Be/9Be ratios across multiple basins and water depths during glacial periods, with values even lower than modern Arctic river endmembers. These results support the hypothesis proposed by Geibert et al. (2021) of a reduced North Atlantic inflow into the Arctic Ocean and the Nordic Seas during Pleistocene glacial intervals.
