Abstract:
This study reveals how rare earth elements and yttrium (REY) cycle through an ocean margin system, clarifying the mechanisms that govern benthic REY fluxes and the preservation of Nd isotope compositions (εNd) in authigenic sediment phases. We present neodymium (Nd) isotope signatures (εNd) and REY concentrations authigenic and detrital phases, pore waters, and bottom seawater along a Mauritanian margin transect that spans oxic, Mn-reducing, Fe-reducing, and sulfidic conditions. We also provide ancillary data that describe the sedimentary environment, namely total organic carbon (TOC), CaCO3, Al, Ca, Fe, and Mn concentrations of the bulk solid phase as well as pore water dissolved Mn, Fe and H2S concentrations.
