Abstract:
Understanding snow and permafrost processes and changes requires long-term observational datasets. This dataset adds detailed snow measurements to the ongoing long-term monitoring efforts of meteorological and permafrost related variables at the Bayelva Site at Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard. We provide time series of snow water equivalent (SWE), snow depth, and snow temperature measurements recorded by automated sensors installed in August 2019 for SWE and snow depth and in September 2024 for snow temperature. Additionally, we publish manual measurements of SWE and snow depth during the seasons 19/21, 20/21, and 21/22 within the footprint of the automated measurements for validation. The data is carefully processed and quality-controlled and the resulting dataset adds valuable information to the unique long-term data record of the Bayelva station and serves as a baseline for future studies.
