Abstract:
As part of the AIDA campaign (Aerosol variability and interaction with ambient conditions based on small-scale vertical and horizontal distribution of Arctic measurements), vertical profiles of meteorological and aerosol particle properties were obtained using the tethered balloon system BELUGA (Balloon-bornE moduLar Utility for profilinG the lower Atmosphere). Measurements were carried out between 19 May and 7 June 2024 at the Arctic research station Ny-Ålesund. In total, 23 flights were conducted on 8 days, reaching altitudes of up to 1300 m. The observations provide detailed information on aerosol microphysics in the lower Arctic atmosphere and support model evaluation and development. The dataset includes measurements from the Turbulence Meteorological Probe (TMP) as well as two interchangeable aerosol instruments: the Cubic Aerosol Measurement Platform (CAMP) and the mSEMS Box (Miniaturized Scanning Electrical Mobility Sizer Box). The aerosol systems were mounted 10 m below the TMP on the tether line and provide aerosol particle number concentrations and particle number size distributions along the vertical profiles

Comment:
Meteorological parameters and total particle number concentrations, as well as optically derived number size distributions, are available at a temporal resolution of 1 Hz, while particle number size distributions from the mSEMS are available every 2 minutes. The data are divided into individual flights, defined as periods with an unchanged instrument setup and no significant temporal interruption. Meteorological data are available for all flights except flights 20 and 21.
