Abstract:
This dataset comprises abundances of Amino-Bacteriohopanepolyols (Amino-BHPs; bacterial biomarkers) and compound-specific radiocarbon analysis of plant-wax biomarkers in marine sediment core GeoB7702-3, recovered from the eastern Mediterranean. The records cover the last 18,000 years. Given the lack of appropriate standards for biomarker quantification, the abundances of Amino-BHPs are presented in arbitrary units (peak area/µg sediment). The radiocarbon data is blank-corrected and presented as fraction modern carbon. They are converted to the reservoir age offset between the biomarkers and the atmosphere (Soulet et al., 2016), a measure for the degree of pre-ageing of the terrigenous compounds at the time of deposition in the marine sediments. Based on these data catchment weighted turnover times of soil carbon (τsoil) and soil mean carbon ages (0-100m soil depth) are calculated for the Nile River watershed according to Eglinton et al. (2021).
