Abstract:
The sampling areas (summarized as 'E-domain')are located east of (mafic igneous rocksof Ordovician age) and within (mafic igneous dikes of post- Devonian age) the Münchberg gneiss massif, NE Bavaria, Germany. The rock samples were manually extracted at the surface of the respective outcrops. We analysed major and trace element compositions of the whole rock samples and on selected Ordovician and post-Devonian whole rocksamples Sr, Nd, and Pb isotope composition. The data describe the chemical and isotopic composition of mafic igneous rocks within the Ordovician part of the Saxothuringian sedimentary basin and of post-tectonic, post-Devonian dikes within the Münchberg gneiss massif.
The project was performed without external funding and proper project title. Sample collection of the E-domain is based on different student's field practicals in the Münchberg area under supervision of Gerhard Franz.
