Abstract:
A trend analysis of the incident solar global, UVB and UVA irradiation measured at Beer Sheva, Israel between January 1995 through December 2022 is presented. Beer Sheva located at the northern edge of the semi-arid Negev region of Israel. The meteorological station is located on the roof of a building (~20m above ground) on the campus of the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and is part of the national network of meteorological stations under the auspices of the Israel Meteorological Service. Prior to executing a trend analysis on the three solar irradiation databases a statistical analysis was performed to obtain mean, median, standard deviation, coefficient of variation (%Cv), maximum and minimum values for each month. The maximum and minimum irradiation intensities occur in June and December, respectively, for all three types of solar irradiation. The maximum irradiation values for June are 8021.6, 1.618 and 399.86 Wh/m² for global UVB and UVA, respectively. The minimum irradiation values for December are 2910.9, 0.342 and 135.66 Wh/m² for global, UVB and UVA, respectively. The indication of a trend with regard to the solar irradiation during a particular month was based upon a p-value analysis, i.e., a p-value < 0.05 indicated the existence of a trend. The trend analysis of the solar global irradiation yielded only a single month, April, viz., a positive trend of +171.8 Wh/m²/decade (equivalent to +2.70%/decade of April's monthly average global irradiation). The trend analysis on the UVB and UVA irradiation databases gave no indication of trends throughout the year.
