Abstract:
Stream benthic macroinvertebrates were collected for a period of 3 consecutive months (December 2019 to March 2020), in 4 nested/non-nested sites within the catchment of Val d'Ega/Eggental, located in South Tyrol, Italy (46°N, 10° E). Organisms were collected through Surber samplings (0.0506 squared metres, mesh size 500 µm) at sites with different characteristics of elevation and land cover in their respective sub-catchments (e.g. presence of urban areas or roads), but similar in regard to in-stream substrate composition. Aim of the samplings was to collect biotic data to assess whether application of de-icing agents within the catchment during the winter time could be a detrimental factor for the ecological integrity of the riverine ecosystem of the valley. The taxonomic nomenclature fully complies with the standard of Fauna Europaea (https://fauna-eu.org, see also de Jong, Y. et al., 2014). The column names of the databases fully complies with the biodiversity data standard of Darwin Core (https://dwc.tdwg.org, see also Wieczorek, J.et al., 2012).
