Lake has largely filled-in since early 20C; now a Schwingmoor; there are effectively 2 small basins; core taken in larger northern basin. Cored from a platform supported by sedge-rich vegetation where probing revealed the thickest sediments. Coring location close to where Late-glacial cores (NMK II) were subsequently taken.

Analyst: Michael O'Connell
Laboratory: Palaeoenvironmental Research Unit, NUI Galway, Galway, Ireland
Data analysis completed: 1986
Sampling in field: Date of sampling: 1984-05-28. Length of core (LG + Holocene): 8.4 m. Length of Core (Holocene): 6.9 m. Cored 1.40-8.40 cm using Livingstone corer (core tube: 5 cm diameter; 1 m drives). Uppermost sediment then recovered (0.5–1.5 m) using Livingstone corer. Sampling density: variable; mainly 4 cm intervals, no. of spectra: 106.
Pollen preparation: Lycopodium spore suspension of know concentration added; acetolysis, mounted in glycerine. Cereal-type pollen differentiated using Beug (1961) criteria (37 um taken as cutoff point; this differs from PRU practice in later years when 40 µm was taken as the cut off size). Pollen nomenclature generally follows Moore et al. 1991. <1 = recorded outside the pollen counts (most samples searched for additional taxa). Myrica distinguished from Corylus.
