FRK_III * Latitude: 53.544770 * Longitude: -9.939500 * Elevation: 91.0 m * Method/Device: Multiple investigations (MULT) * Comment: Geology: Blanket bog; cutover at FRK III; intact at FRK IV; bedrock consists of alternating bands of quartzites, calcareous schists and some marble. Basin size: Basin of ca. 4.5 ha to south where FRK II taken. No basin at sampling points; only extensive blanket bog. Sample: mineral soil + overlying peat
FRK_IV * Latitude: 53.545560 * Longitude: -9.946440 * Elevation: 70.0 m * Method/Device: Multiple investigations (MULT) * Comment: Geology: Blanket bog; cutover at FRK III; intact at FRK IV; bedrock consists of alternating bands of quartzites, calcareous schists and some marble. Comment:
Analyst: Michael O'Connell
Laboratory: Palaeoenvironmental Research Unit, NUI Galway, Galway, Ireland
Data analysis completed: 1987
Sampling in field: 1985-08-20. Sample density: variable; mainly 2 cm intervals.
Depths datum = peat/mineral soil interface; nominal depths used to facilitate plotting
Pollen preparation: Lycopodium spore suspension of know concentration added; acetolysis, mounted in glycerine
Pollen identification and counting: Cereal-type pollen differentiated using Beug (1961) criteria (37 um taken as cutoff point; but only pollen grains 40 um and greater included in cereal-type). Pollen nomenclature generally follows Moore et al. 1991. <1 = recorded outside the pollen counts (most samples searched for additional taxa). Myrica and Corylus distinguished. Charcoal particles ≥37 um counted during routine pollen counting.
