Abstract:
The pollen data of the site Friesack 4 was taken directly from the original counting records of Klaus Kloss, which are archived in the Brandenburgisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege und Archäologisches Landesmuseum, in Zossen OT Wünsdorf. They were written by Klaus Kloss as records to be used only by himself, and were not considered to be used later by other researchers. Therefore they show some individual specifics, which cannot be interpreted by a present user without problems.
There is one column which was called "Krautige" bei Klaus Kloss, but apparently does not work out as sum of all herbal taxa. It is marked as "herbs" (Krautige) in the datasets. The nomenclature of the counting records of Klaus Kloss is sometimes illogical and does not follow a special flora or determination key. In some cases it has to remain unclear whether different names mean different pollen types or not. A special problem is the designation of the Cereal Type pollen. Sometimes they are taken down as "Getreide" (Cereals), sometimes as Getreide-Typ (Cereal-Type), sometimes as "Getreideartige" ("like Cereals"), sometimes simply as "große Poaceae" (large Poaceae). I decided to transfer everything to PANGAEA exactly like Klaus Kloss took it down.
From two profiles, samples were apparently taken upside down. This mistake was certainly noticed by Klaus Kloss when counting the samples, but not corrected in the counting records. Concerned are the profiles PFr_78-3.9 and PFr_4 from Trench A. This mistake was not revised for the PANGAEA datasets, so any user has to take care with these two profiles.
