Abstract:
Discrete measurements of CaCO3 and organic carbon were made in 2000 at 10 cm intervals along the composite section from Site 145-882 to a depth of 32.1 m CCSF. Carbon associated with CaCO3 was calculated as the difference between two independent analyses of aliquots from the same interval: Total carbon (=CaCO3 and POC) from the bulk sediment and organic carbon measured after pretreatment with hydrochloric acid to remove carbonates. The method is described in Lyle et al. (2000).
