The long transect was traversed across the ice floe with a GPS-equipped MagnaProbe to obtain statistically representative distributions of snow/SSL and pond depth. The transect was marked with flags at its corner points to ensure that a similar track was measured during repeated visits to the ice floe. Along the same transect track the total sea ice thickness (sea ice thickness + snow / SSL or melt pond depth) was measured unsing a Geophex Ltd. GEM2-730 instrument. These GEM measurements are available in the other dataset of this collection: https://doi.pangaea.de/10.1594/PANGAEA.996933. Since the GEM and MagnaProbe measurements at this station were conducted on two consecutive days, ice floe drift between the surveys would make precise spatio-temporal co-location of the datasets unreliable. Therefore, the measurements are provided as separate datasets without any drift correction. However, both were collected along the same marked transect track.
