The expedition took place during 2002-10-12 – 2002-12-02 from Suva (Fiji) to Wellington (New Zealand) in the Pacific. SO167 visited the south Tonga volcanic arc, Valu Fa Ridge, South Fiji Basin, Osbourn Trough and Louisville Ridge. Key objectives of this program were to provide the first ground truth concerning the south Tonga arc, to locate the geochemical signature of the subducting Louisville Ridge within the arc, to examine the relationship between tectonic, magmatic and hydrothermal processes on Valu Fa Ridge, document any changes in hydrothermal venting at the Vai Lili and Hine Hina sites on Valu Fa Ridge since 1989, establish the origin and age of Osbourn Trough, to determine the age of the bend on the Louisville Ridge, and to provide the first geochemical characteristion of the Louisville Ridge. Please see the cruise report for details. The data are unprocessed and can therefore contain incorrect depth measurements (artifacts) if not further processed. Note that refraction errors may occur when no proper SVP is applied. Data in this publication was retrieved from the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie, BSH). Data acquisition was done by the Institute of Geosciences (IfG), Kiel University, provision of the data is supported by the Project Marine Data - Research Vessels and published according to the FAIR principles.</description><description descriptionType="TechnicalInfo">These data should not be used for navigational purposes.<br/>Data publishing was realised by Anne-Cathrin Wölfl, GEOMAR.</description></descriptions><geoLocations><geoLocation><geoLocationBox><westBoundLongitude>177.8998871</westBoundLongitude><eastBoundLongitude>-168.0909976</eastBoundLongitude><southBoundLatitude>-38.5646471</southBoundLatitude><northBoundLatitude>-20.35054295</northBoundLatitude></geoLocationBox></geoLocation></geoLocations></resource>
