Samples were collected across a fluvio-lacustrine sequence spanning the Priabonian and lower Rupelian stages (~37–33 Ma), including the Eocene–Oligocene Transition (EOT) and the Early Oligocene Glacial Maximum. The dataset includes stepwise demagnetization data and characteristic remanent magnetization (ChRM) directions used to establish a magnetostratigraphic framework for the section. Polarity zones were correlated to the Geomagnetic Polarity Time Scale (GPTS). These data were used to constrain the age of the sedimentary record and associated paleoenvironmental proxies (clumped isotopes, stable isotopes) discussed in Botté et al. (in prep.).</description><description descriptionType="TechnicalInfo">Stratigraphic levels (column Level [m]) refer to the sedimentary log published in Licht et al. (2022), which also serves as the reference framework for the VGP log figure provided as a companion file.<br/>Some samples were split into two subsamples and subjected to both alternating field (AF) and thermal demagnetization. These are annotated as _1 (AF) and _2 (thermal) respectively.<br/>Some samples were showing no directional data and were not interpreted. This occurs when a sample could not be sufficiently demagnetized using AF demagnetization, but its paired thermal subsample (e.g. BT008_2) yielded a reliable result and was interpreted instead.<br/>NRM was measured using a 2G Enterprises cryogenic magnetometer at CEREGE (Aix-Marseille University). Samples were subjected to stepwise AF demagnetization (5 mT increments, 0–70 mT) or thermal demagnetization (20–50°C increments, up to 660°C). ChRM directions were calculated using principal component analysis (Kirschvink, 1980) in PuffinPlot (Lurcock &amp; Wilson, 2012), based on at least four demagnetization steps. Reliability was assessed based on demagnetization trajectory stability and a maximum angular deviation (MAD) threshold of 15°. Samples with low magnetic intensity or incoherent directional trends were excluded.
