This dataset contains photos captured by the camera module of the TRIPLE-IceCraft melting probe during a technical demonstration in 2023 / 2024. The demonstration took place at a site around 1 km south of the edge of the Ekström Ice Shelf, near Neumayer Station III. The TRIPLE-IceCraft successfully drilled a hole into the ice, reaching a depth of 53 m, while documenting the melting process and surrounding ice structures. The imaging system consists of three cameras oriented toward the wall of the melt channel and evenly distributed around the probe with an angular separation of 120°. Each camera features a field of view of 29 mm (horizontal) × 22 mm (vertical) with a spatial resolution of 10 µm per pixel. The primary objective of this mission was to demonstrate the capabilities of the melting probe technology in a real-world scenario. ** For all details see the full metadata description at "https://doi.pangaea.de/10.1594/PANGAEA.993675"!
