Abstract:	This data describes velocity measurements at Vernagtferner, located in the southern Oetztal Alps, Austria. The glacier covers an area of approximately 6 km² and can be divided into three areas: the western part, called Schwarzwandzunge, the middle part, known as Taschach area, and the Brockogel area in the eastern part. An existing network of drilled stakes has been installed at Vernagtferner since 1966, their position is measured annually in-situ in September. Additional data is also available for the period 2018-2023, which is not part of the long-term stake network and only covers the eastern part of the glacier (Taschach and Brochkogel area). This data is generated manually from feature tracking of various data (as described in the dataset) or through in-situ stake measurements. A velocity map was interpolated from all available data for the period 2018-2023, for the eastern and middle part of Vernagtferner (Taschach and Brochkogel area). It is not cut to a glacier boundary to allow the use for different years. The velocity map includes the velocity in northing and easting. Furthermore, information on the seasonal variation of velocity is provided by stakes measured at different times of the year.

This data describes the stake position displacement of the installed stake network, measured in-situ every year in September (1966-2023). The position is displayed in Latitude and Longitude. To enable a direct derivation of displacement rates, the stake positions are also given in Northing and Easting in the UTM system (EPSG: 32632) in meters. Each stake has a number and a row. The row indicates a series of continuous stake displacements, an increase of the row counter represents a manual displacement of the stake, for example after a melt-out. An accuracy of some centimetres can be assumed.	stake_network_1966_2023.txt	75.8 kBytes
This data describes the displacement of glacier surface points. Information on the respective start and end position (in Latitude and Longitude) of the monitoring as well as the acquisition method and detection methods used are displayed for each point. To enable a direct derivation of displacement rates, the positions are also given in Northing and Easting in the UTM system (EPSG: 32632) in meters. The data is restricted to the eastern an middle part of the Vernagtferner (Taschach and Brochkogel area). An accuracy of some centimetres can be assumed.	displacement_2018_2023.txt	24.5 kBytes
This data describes an interpolated velocity map for the eastern and middle part of the Vernagtferner (Taschach and Brochkogel area) in the UTM system (EPSG:32632). The interpolation is based on the stake network (stake_network_1966_2023.txt) and other pointbased information on displacments (displacement_2018_2023.txt). Only data from the 2018-2023 period was used. The data includes in the unit m/s the calculated velocity in northing and easting. An accuracy of some centimetres can be assumed.	velocity_map.nc	93.8 kBytes
This data enables the calculation of seasonal variations in surface velocities. Therefore, the displacement of selected stakes at different times is displayed with the data of measurement and a stake name. The position is shown in Latitude and Longitude. To enable a direct derivation of displacement rates, the stake positions are also given in Northing and Easting in the UTM system (EPSG: 32632) in meters. An accuracy of some centimeters can be assumed.	seasonal_variation_data.txt	3.3 kBytes
