Abstract:
In incubation experiments with ¹⁵N-labelled nitrate, without or with additional sulfide or acetate, we determined rates of denitrification, anammox, and dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium to study nitrogen removal versus nitrogen recycling processes. Water column samples were collected from the meromictic Lake Lugano North Basin, Switzerland, during field campaigns in February 2017, October 2017, and April 2018, using Niskin bottles at depths between 95 and 105 m.
