Abstract:
Raw multibeam bathymetry data were collected using the ship's own Kongsberg EM122 multibeam echosounder during the RV METEOR cruise M151 (ATHENA). The cruise took place between 2018-10-06 and 2018-10-31 (Ponta Delgada, Portugal – Funchal, Portugal). The research was conducted along the slopes of the Azores Islands, of Atlantis Seamount and of Great Meteor Seamount (including the western Little Meteor Seamount). Detailed bathymetric mapping of the slope and plateau areas was conducted using the deep-water EM122 and the shallow-water EM710, along with sub-bottom profiling, to provide information for subsequent ROV dives and sampling. Additionally, sound velocity profiles (SVP) were collected using CTD and expendable sound velocity probes. The data are archived at the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany (Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie, BSH) and provided to PANGAEA database for data curation and publication. Data are unprocessed and therefore contain incorrect depth measurements (artifacts). Data can be processed e.g. with the open source software package MB-System (Caress, D. W., and D. N. Chayes, MB-System: Mapping the Seafloor, http://www.mbari.org/products/research-software/mb-system/, 2022).
