Abstract:
Cloud radars provide information on micro- and macrophysical properties of clouds and precipitation. Continuous zenith-pointing cloud radar observations were made with the 94 GHz (W-band) frequency modulated continuous wave Doppler radar (model RPG-FMCW-94-SP) named MiRAC-A. Measurements were carried out at the AWIPEV Atmospheric Observatory in Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard, from 28 July 2017 to 8 October 2018. The atmospheric column from 100 m to 12 km above the surface was profiled with a vertical resolution of 3.2-24 m and a temporal resolution of 2 s. The data was post-processed to correct for Doppler aliasing and the radar calibration was adjusted based on a reference radar. The data contains only the Doppler spectra, radar moments are available as a separate data set. Some technical parameters and flags related to measurement operation, post-processing, and data quality, which could be relevant for some data users, are also provided.
