Abstract:
Recruitment of the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis at five sites in the Gulf of Maine was monitored over the period from 1994 to 2019. A series of Astroturf panels attached to wire frames were deployed at White Island and Gosport Harbor, Isles of Shoals and Cape Neddick, Maine in the southern portion of the Gulf of Maine and at Fraser Point and Eastport, Maine in the northern section. The study began with White Island and Cape Neddick in 1994, Frazer Point and Eastport began in 1995 and Gosport Harbor was added in 2003. The panels were deployed in late May to early June and collected in late July, though some years collection was delayed and not all sites were sampled in some years. While 15 panels were deployed and 10 panels were analyzed only five randomly selected panels were used in this study, due to storm related panel array mortalities, to provide a consistent analysis for all sampled sites and years. The data is presented in an excel spread sheet for use for use by interested parties.
