Abstract:
A collection of early instrumental meteorological records for 46 locations in Switzerland and one in France covering the 18th and 19th century. Available variables are air temperature, pressure, precipitation, snow depth, snow/rain occurrence, humidity, wind force and direction, cloud cover, wet bulb temperature, water temperature, soil temperature, and weather description, for a total of ca. 5 million observations. Air temperature, pressure, and precipitation data (ca. 3 million observations) have been converted to modern units and quality controlled. Time has been converted to UTC.

Comment:
This is a major update of and supersedes an existing dataset on PANGAEA (https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.909141).
The SEF folder contains a subset of processed data in a ready-to-use and well documented standard format. It is the core product. An inventory file is provided.
The RAW folder contains all raw data, which mostly require some additional processing and therefore will be interesting only for a minority of expert users. It also guarantees data transparency.
