Abstract:
Boron isotope data on benthic foraminifera, spanning 1 to 59 Ma, and used to reconstruct deep ocean pH change over the Cenozoic. Data are from ODP sites spanning water depths of 2500-3600 m in the Equatorial and North Atlantic. Measurements were made on mono-specific samples of the genus Cibicidoides, which were oxidatively cleaned, purified using column chromatography, and analysed using MC-ICPMS. The data are presented as part of a study on deep ocean temperature change over the Cenozoic using clumped isotopes, with the pH estimates used to evaluate the potential pH influence on conventional benthic oxygen isotopes.
