Abstract:
This dataset contains ice phenology for 56 lakes in the Northern Hemisphere from 1979 to 2021. The ice phenology was extracted from 3.125 km 37 GHz H-polarized evening brightness temperature data from Scanning Multi-channel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR), Special Sensor Microwave Image (SSM/I) and Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) data in the Calibrated Enhanced Resolution Brightness Temperature (CETB) dataset.

Comment:
This is an updated version of dataset https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.937904. Compared with the old version, we extended the data record to 2021 and added estimated uncertainty of lake ice dates caused by periodical missing data of brightness temperature series.
Date records with uncertainty greater than 7 days were replaced if results from other satellites were available. Visual interpretation was used to obtain the lake ice dates that were failed to be extracted by the automatic algorithm from 1993 to 2021 to ensure the completeness of the records in recent decades.
The uncertainty represents the days of missing data before the freeze-up/break-up dates in the dataset, so they are all negative values. 0 means no missing data before the lake ice dates.
