Abstract:
This dataset contains the observations of air temperature in the ship's crow's nest as conducted during the Norwegian North Polar Expedition in 1893-1896 onboard the drifting vessel Fram. Observations were obtained on an irregular schedule during the expedition. Temperatures were measured under the lead of S. Scott-Hansen. Surface air temperatures at the same points in time were measured in a weather hut placed on the ice at an approximate height of 1.5m. Data was digitized by C. Katlein manually from a scan of pages 497 and following of The Norwegian North Polar Expedition Scientific Results vol. 6 (1905) Section number 12 Meteorology compiled by H. Mohn. The respective full set of meteorological observations containing the geographic positions of these observations are archived at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC):
