Abstract:
Dry bulk density (g/cm3) and loss on ignition (%) of 1674 samples from Orakei Basin (Auckland Volcanic Field maar lake, New Zealand) on the event corrected depth scale (ECD; m) and 87645 Itrax micro-XRF elemental downcore variation data points from Orakei Basin on the ECD scale and on the age scale. The ECD was developed in Peti and Augustinus (2019), the age model was developed in Peti et al. (2020). The data spans the time interval ca. 132 to 9.8 ka. Measurements were all conducted between 2017 and 2019 at the School of Environment, University of Auckland, New Zealand. DBD was acquired by drying a known volume of sediment and relating the dry mass to the volume (g/cm3). LOI%, as an indicator of organic matter, was acquired by igniting a known mass of sediment at 550°C and relating the mass loss to the initial mass (in %). Itrax micro-XRF data was acquired for all cores was acquired with an Itrax micro-XRF core scanner (Cox Analytical Systems, Gothenburg, Sweden) equipped with the Mo X-ray tube (at 30 kV, 55 mA) at 1 mm spatial resolution and 10 s exposure time/measurement interval. We use the reported data for paleoenvironmental reconstructions over the given time frame and comparison with other sites in the region.
