Abstract:
Radiocarbon was measured on small mono-specific samples of between 3 and 30 individual foraminiferal tests taken from five different sediment cores. Multiple independent samples were taken and measured for each depth at each core. The aim was to be able to estimate the heterogeneity in age between small samples of foraminifera from the same depth and core.
Radiocarbon dating was performed by Accelerated Mass Spectrometry (AMS) using a Mini Carbon Dating System (MICADAS) (Wacker et al. 2010) at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Bremerhaven, Germany, using a gas target and following standard operating procedures. Blanks were processed and correction performed according to a procedure in Sun et al. (2020).
