Abstract:
SEM photography, spectrum and qualitative analyses on specific horizons: barite grains in JC138-22RD, Fe oxyhydroxides in JC138-22RD, sulphides in JC138-39GC, pelagic carbonates, sulphides and Fe oxyhydroxides in JC138-49GC with SEM (Carl Zeiss Leo 1450VP SEM), and characterized by semi-quantitative energy dispersive X-ray (EDS) analyses (Oxford Instruments X-Act 10mm2 area SDD EDS Detector) with a carbon coating. Minerals that did not dissolve during the acid digestion (barite grains) also analysed with a Hitachi TM1000 SEM. Two horizons of Fe oxyhydroxide sediment samples (from Southern mound) were investigated for chemical mapping, textural morphology and mineralogy using EDS : 292-293 cm-depth in JC138-22RD and 126-130 cm in JC138-31RD.
