Abstract:
Measurements of natural abundance of carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes of mesozooplankton (300-500µm) in samples collected at various depth intervals between the surface and 2500m along the circumnavigation cruise Malaspina-2010 between December 2010 and June 2011.These data are part of the CONSOLIDER-INGENIO project Malaspina (CSD2008-00077) funded by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Spain). C.M. was supported by a PFPI grant of the Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO).

vertical hauls plankton nets: MULTINET. Sampling time: around noon. Maximum depth: 2500m. Net section: 0.5m^2. Mesh size: 300µm.
Preservation with buffered formalin (4% final concentration). Stored for at least 12 months before sample selection for stable isotope determinations.
Identification and selection of specimens by stereomicroscope
Stable isotope determinations by isotope-ratio mass spectrometry coupled to elemental analyzer. Sample size: 1.5±0.7 mg dry weight.
