Comment:
The ROV used was an inspection-class Ocean Modules V8 Sii belonging to the AWI section Bentho-Pelagic Processes. It was equipped with two High Definition (HD) video cameras (Kongsberg oe14-502) in front and one wide-angle camera (Bowtech L3C-550) for umbilical surveillance in the back. During transects, one of the HD cameras was directed perpendicularly towards the ground (DOWN), whereas the other one was directed forward in an angle of 40-45° (AHEAD). A distance of 1-2 m was kept to the ground, depending on the type of seafloor, mainly to avoid sediment resuspension caused by the ROV's thrusters. Each camera was equipped with two parallel red lasers providing reference scales of 4 cm and 6 cm in the videos of the AHEAD-looking and DOWN-looking cameras, respectively. The lighting was ensured by four LED lights (Bowtech LED-2400 aluminium) in the front and one in the back.
The ROV was piloted by Nils Owsianowski (AWI). Images were selectively extracted from the videos by Luisa Federwisch using the Snapshot function in VLC media player (2.2.4 Weatherwax). The four-digit number in the image file names corresponds to the running number of the video from which they were extracted. Species were identified by Luisa Federwisch based on their macroscopic characteristics. The image file names include the abbreviated species names; in case of a hyphen it might be either of the two given species.
