Abstract:
Two daily Lamb weather type (LWT) series have been reconstructed for the British Isles over the period 1781-1996 by combining daily pressure series with the historical LWT catalogue or the objective LWT catalogue of Jones et al.
The reconstruction technique tests for each day whether the pressure pattern can match any of the seven weather types. If so, it provides the probability of the seven possible weather types (codes 1-7). If not, the day is left unclassified (code -1). In the file, only the most probable two weather types are given with their corresponding probabilities.
Codes of LWT:
1=Anticyclonic
2=Cyclonic
3=Northerly
4=Easterly
5=Southerly
6=Westerly
7=North Westerly
-1=unclassified day
