Abstract:
Spatial data of current semi-natural forest ecosystem types of Germany and the Kellerwald National Park (Hesse, Germany) are presented. Ecosystem types were classified as entities characterized by certain homogeneity of significant features of their structures and functions. Accordingly, ecosystem types were categorized using data collected for 21600 forest sites across Germany during the years 1961-1990. Focusing on forest ecosystems, two maps of Current semi-natural Ecosystem Types (EsT) were derived from available data: (1) EsT of Germany (1 : 500,000 equivalent scale, representing the time period 1991-2010) and (2) EsT in the Kellerwald National Park (1: 25,000 equivalent scale, 2001-2010).
