Pollen sampling details: sampling density <= 4 cm intervals. Depths cited in m (originally recorded in cm) with respect to the mineral/soil interface (as in all samples from Carrownaglogh); negative values indicate above the mineral/peat interface.
Surface of bog somewhat disturbed, i.e. youngest peat (uppermost cms) disturbed (not analysed)
Uppermost depth cited as the depth of the sample (standard PRU practice); e.g. 1 cm = 1-2 cm below the mineral/peat horizon
Pollen preparation: Lycopodium tablets (Stockmarr) added; acetolysis, HF for basal (minerogenic) samples; mounted in glycerine
Pollen identification and counting: Cereal-type pollen differentiated using Beug (1961) criteria (37 um taken as cutoff point; this differs from PRU practice in later years when 40 um was taken as the cut off size). Pollen nomenclature generally follows Moore et al. 1991. <1 = recorded outside the pollen counts.
