Abstract:
The objective of this study was to characterize the conchiometric relationships of the invasive gastropod Melanoides tuberculata collected in the Praquiquara igarapé, Castanhal, eastern Amazon region, in July 2017, and to analyze the latitudinal influence on the biomorphometry of the mollusk shell. In all, the external measurements (length, width and height) and the aperture (length and width) of the 1,970 gastropod shell were obtained, with subsequent simple regressions between the measured measurements, applying a Student's t-Test to evaluate the statistical dependence among the variables at a significance level of 95 % (? = 0.05). The latitudinal influence was analyzed through the Shell Shape Stabilization Indicator (IEF), comparing the population sampled in the state of Pará with a population sampled in the state of Ceará. All the morphometric relationships performed showed "extremely strong positive" correlations (r > 0.9), classified by negative allometry. The IEF graphs constructed from the morphometric ratios show a tendency to conchiliomorphological stabilization of M. tuberculata from 13 mm of total length in the individuals at both sampling sites. However, differences in the shell form of the gastropod are evident, indicating that the molluscs found in the Praquiquara igarapé are proportionally larger than those sampled in the Banana lagoon. It is concluded that the invasive gastropod presents excellent conchiometric correlations, generating equations that satisfy the morphometric estimation of the species. In addition, there were differences in the morphology of the gastropods shell when sampled in regions with latitudinal differences.
