Abstract:
Sediment samples collected from the shoreline of Koumoundourou lake in the western part of Attiki peninsula, 15 km far from Athens the capital of Greece, were treated with a 4 mM CaCl2 solution for the extraction of DOM, at a substrate: solution ratio equal to 1:4. The solutions were shaken for 15 min, centrifuged at 6000 rpm for 20 min at 10 °C and filtered through a 0.4 µm pore polycarbon filter. DOM extracts were characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy. Spectra were obtained by a Perkin-Elmer LS 55 luminescence spectrophotometer equipped with the WinLab 4.00.02 software for data processing. Humification Index values were calculated according to Ohno (2002)
